Application Design Engineer

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Application Design Engineer with strong Mechanical Engineering know-how to join the Engineering Team of a global manufacturing business based in Bradford. As an Application Design Engineer your main focus will be to produce design and development outputs to support product realisation and to formally review and control design changes during the products lifecycle.

Our AEO certified automotive client continues to innovate and lead the field when it comes to ensuring that it remains an employer of choice for first class mechanical engineers and technicians.

The business continue to make significant investments into their Bradford plant and particularly the Design/Product Development departments, meaning the creation of various new positions.

In this role you will be responsible for creating and maintaining models, drawings and supporting documentation to facilitate New Product Introduction (NPI), VAVE/DfV, Change Management and Advanced Development Programs.

Our client is situated on the outskirts of Bradford and is easily accessible from Halifax, Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities:

- Ensure models and drawings are completed and maintained in a timely manner for manufacture.
- Ensure good quality engineering support is provided to internal and external customers of the department.
- Ensure cost reduction opportunities are exploited at design outset.
- Using Pro Engineer or other CAD packages, responsible for generating models of automotive products and components and completing detailed drawings to document the model from EMS / works requests.
- Maintain Pro Engineer (or other CAD packages) data using SAP/PLM.
- In accordance with the company`s Change Management System, maintain and record design changes using Pro Engineer, other CAD packages or drawing board where appropriate.
- Translate, send and receive part files to and from customers/suppliers using electronic methods.
- Liaise with suppliers to facilitate the production of components with respect to new product Introduction (NPI) and outsource activities.
- Provide engineering support for projects including cost reduction and inventory projects.
- Liaise with departments to facilitate the production of components internally and externally.

To be considered or this position you will have the following experience and skills:

- Qualified to HND or degree level in Mechanical Engineering or 10 years` relevant experience in Product Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years` mechanical engineering product experience
- Automotive experience would be a clear advantage; alternatively experience in a similar industry such as aerospace, oil and gas, precision engineering etc.
- Experience of using ProE, UG and CAD packages
- Excellent understanding of engineering drawings
- Knowledge of SAP R3
- Proficient in use of the Microsoft Office package: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook
