The in-house Legal team has recently been nominated for a number of industry awards and it is recognised as a market leader in the provision of legal services for a FTSE 100 business. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Solicitor to join the Legal team in our Reading and / or London office to lead on the development of legal frameworks, and contractual arrangements, in new markets.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide legal support to the business. The business is a multi-utility company that carries out design and construction works in respect of assets owned and operated by other Group companies and third parties. The business designs, constructs, owns, operates and maintains district heat projects. This role has been created to work with both businesses on reviews, negotiations and drafting of complex and high value commercial and construction contracts projects throughout the UK.

Key Accountabilities

* Provide legal advice on a range of legal, commercial and operational issues and provide proactive and practical options to your internal client to ensure legal risks are understood and managed.
* Review, comment on, negotiate and/or draft agreements including construction and commercial agreements.
* Provide legal advice and liaise and support the business on major bids and tenders.
* Co-ordinate and manage the outsourcing of legal work when required.


To be successful in this role, you should:

* Be a qualified solicitor with 2 to 5 years PQE.
* Have a detailed knowledge of the construction industry.
* Have the ability to deal with a varied range of commercial and construction contracts, including standard form construction contracts (JCT, NEC3 and FIDIC) and understand what is acceptable in the market.
* Have the ability to work on your own and within a team. Strong negotiation, drafting, communication and inter-personal skills are essential for this role.
* Excellent organisational skills.

Knowledge of the energy, utility and construction industries will be advantageous.

As this role involves some travel throughout the UK, a full driving licence is required.
