Job Description
Job Title: Junior EC&I Engineer Team: Controls
Reports to: Controls Team Leader
Responsible for: No employees

Job Purpose:
Develop a working knowledge and competency of all of the key attributes of an EC&I Engineer.
Become responsible for the development and delivery of the Electrical designs for the full range of machinery manufactured by ETL. In doing so the employee shall meet the key targets of time, cost, quality, Safety Health & Environment (SHE) as defined within the agreed Quotation with the Customer and Management at ETL.

Duties and key responsibilities to be developed

1. Engineering
 Fully understand the range of machinery and electrical designs produced by ETL
 Ensure the overall design; “basis of safety” is inherent in the controls design
 Ensure the controls design meets essential company and statutory design standards
 Coordinate the development and delivery of the controls design and documentation to meet the agreed project programme and quality standards.
 Ensure all engineering risks are shared with and understood by the Project Manager/Controls Team Leader
 Provide appropriate electrical engineering support for control panel build, technical assembly, installation and commissioning
 Provide appropriate support for the development of the software program.

2. General
 Produce the HDS, FS; SDS; P&ID; Electrical Schematics, Pneumatic Schematics etc to facilitate technical assembly, together with other key controls documentation
 Produce Bills of Materials (BOM’s), raise purchase requisitions and provide technical support to facilitate purchasing of the materials.
 Liaise with Project Manager and mechanical design engineer to ensure their input and support achieves a robust design
 Provide controls design engineering input to the project, design and risk assessment review meetings
 Ensure that you remain compliant with health and safety regulations and accept safe practice at all times. Report any health and safety issues or contraventions witnessed anywhere within the business to your manager
 Ensure awareness of the controls design costs and budgets
 Promote standardisation philosophy within designs therefore maximising efficiency and minimizing potential risks

Employee Specification – Electrical Controls & Instrumentation Engineer – Attributes Essential Desirable
Experience • Due to the nature of the role It is understood that the employee will have limited experience. The Essential attributes listed below are the key requirements. • Working in Engineering / Production Environment
• Experience in delivering control designs for bespoke machinery.
Qualifications • HNC/HND or DipHe Electrical/Controls Engineering or equivalent qualification • Honours Degree (BEng) in Electrical/Controls l Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Skills and abilities • Understanding/limited experience of Electrical Engineering Design (i.e. ability to produce electrical schematic)
• Ability to use Autocad (2D) or equivalent
• Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel
• Effective verbal and written communication • Limited experience of Subcontract Management
• Able to engineer the detailed design from initial specifications or designs
• Previous experience with Elecworks drawing software
• Able to produce detailed written functional specifications
Knowledge • Awareness of PLC Systems
• Awareness of Fan/Motor Design & Control (Star Delta & VFD’s)
• Awareness of electrical safety circuit and design
• General awareness of control gear and their use in control system designs (i.e. MCB’s, Relay, PSU’s etc)
• Awareness of Electrical / Controls Legislation & Codes of Practice. • Awareness of ATEX (Hazardous Area) equipment and design
• Limited experience with PLC Software writing (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley)
• Awareness of Pharmaceutical Industry
• Awareness of Containment Solutions
• Awareness of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
• Awareness of Pneumatic Systems and pneumatic design
• Awareness of International Engineering Standards (BSEN, ISO etc)
