My clients are a very busy well established independent property lettings /construction business based in Manchester City Centre, winners of many awards.

We are now URGENTLY seeking for them an experienced Buyer supporting the Head of Procurement to increase the company's profitability obtaining the best service and price delivering a high quality service to the on-site teams. Having responsibility for ensuring that the materials required for construction projects are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets. To improve and support the profitability of contracts by ensuring that the most cost‐effective and appropriate materials are purchased in line with Company environmental and social ethos. To seek quotes on prices and availability of materials from a variety of suppliers, identifying and building a preferred partner supplier network achieving; minimum quantity purchases at maximum quantity discount, free delivery, express delivery, extended payment terms, return of unused goods without penalty etc.

Salary upto £28k + bonus
Hours Monday-Friday 9-5.30pm
City centre close to all transport links

Buyer’s Key responsibilities:
• To build relationships with and recommend suppliers
• To continually work on new supply strategies to determine the best opportunities for the Company
• To negotiate and agree the most favorable terms possible with suppliers.
• To provide prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings
• To contact a range of suppliers and sub‐contractors to obtain quotations and agree and achieve delivery times
• To keep detailed records and maintain a well‐organised work schedule
• To ensure regular stock takes and to ensure that stock valuations are kept up to date
• To devise, implement and monitor Goods in, Goods out and Goods Returns Procedure including traceability of goods which might be transferred between sites.
• To continually assess the reliability of sub‐contractors and suppliers and take remedial actions where shortfalls or failures occur.
• To respond to and resolve challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials.
• To implement and execute penalty clauses for failures in delivery timescales or services.
• To ensure compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services
• To provide advice to the project team on the predicted cost of individual items.
• To liaise closely with the project team at the design and costing stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided
• To prepare and maintain cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business
• To be able to deal with changes in specification and construction methods/techniques on a project and liaise with the team and supply chain effectively in line with the changes
• Issuing material and plant orders
• Checking quotes against budget

Buyers Knowledge/skills/experience:
• Excellent negotiating skills, an aptitude for figures with the ability to manage a budget, an analytical mind, IT skills; Microsoft Office Suite, email, Sage (training available)
• Teamwork Skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and manage your time to meet deadlines
• Construction industry experience is essential
