As a contact officer you will to be prepared to manage calls for service 24/7. You need to take control during difficult situations and be capable to make critical decisions whilst remaining empathetic and supportive.

To be effective in this role a calm manner, decision making abilities and understanding of how to react in distressing situations will be vital.

Key Responsibilities

* To deal with all calls for service, via all channels to West Midlands Police by the public and other agencies, whilst engaging with other emergency services and external associates.
* Make concise timely decisions, ensuring all calls for services are assessed and dealt with according to policy, ensuring a safe, effective allocation.
* Practice all technology and IT systems relevant to the role.
* To deal with calls for service at the first point of contact where appropriate and possible. Utilising the Grading Framework to identify the most appropriate service option where resolution is not possible at first point of contact
* Ensure appropriate managers are informed and updated on any issues likely to impact service delivery and performance.
* Provide appropriate support, advice and/or guidance to victims and witnesses and well as collecting intelligence for reducing crime.
* Sustain up to date understanding of all operating systems, protocols, policies and procedures.
