BABCOCK INTERNATIONAL GROUP is currently looking to appoint an experienced Residential Support Officer to join our team on a permanent basis, to work the following shift patterns:

• An average of 36 hours per week operating over a 4 week Rotational Shift pattern which includes Weekends / Nights

The purpose of these roles is to provide a duty of care to apprentices aged 16+. This role includes shared responsibility for the pastoral care and safeguarding of apprentices residing at either HMS Sultan and/or HMS Collingwood; providing advice and guidance as necessary. You will also be responsible for appropriate record keeping, maintaining the security of the residential accommodation and monitoring and maintaining Health and Safety within the accommodation including responding to emergency situations. Undertake various ad-hoc tasks.

Major Tasks:
• Act as Point of Contact for apprentices during Out of Hours, providing appropriate support as required.
• Undertake duty of care, pastoral and safeguarding routines to ensure the safety and wellbeing of apprentices and colleagues in line with operating procedures.
• Perform the roles of First Aider and Fire Warden in response to emergency situations.
• Maintain Log of all key activity during shift, ensuring entries are accurate and appropriate.

Additional Key Accountabilities:
• Undertake and report on regular Health & Safety Checks reporting any issues or concerns to Management.
• Ensure all defects/faults are reported in a timely manner
• Ensure compliance with Babcock Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Safeguarding & Welfare policy.
• Ensure robust Handover is undertaken to inform next shift coming on duty.
• Act as a role model to apprentices following company and employer policy.
• Manage any behaviour issues in line with operating procedures
• Act as emergency Duty Lock Up for Academy building - Faraday
• Fosters an organisational culture that is positive about change and committed to delivery of business objectives.

Key Technical Skills / Competencies:
• Experience of, and appropriate confidence to deal with demanding and at times difficult individuals or situations in a professional manner
• Experience of working with stressful situations
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Experience of coaching or counselling and individuals

Key Behavioural Competencies:
• Good leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with diverse groups of people
• Passionate about working with people and the provision of excellent customer service.
• A practical and flexible approach to work.
• A supportive attitude towards health and wellbeing, and educational achievement

Key Analytical Skills and Challenges / Competencies:
• Literate in Microsoft Office applications
• Effective Planning & Organisational skills

Company / Industry Knowledge:
• Youth work or coaching experience
• Awareness of relevant Government initiatives relating to Safeguarding and Ofsted

• Youth Work – Award or similar
• Functional Skills or equivalent Level 2 Communication –written / verbal
• An understanding of learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and wider autistic spectrum (desirable)
Security Status:
• Requires enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service ( DBS) checks through the Independent Safeguarding Authority
