An excellent opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and committed Social Worker to join the Adolescent Support Team covering North Kent. The Adolescent Support Team have been operational since 2015 and have a proven record to improve life outcomes for young people aged 11-17 years and their families who are experiencing crisis, homelessness, and difficulties within their relationships. As part of a small team you will work independently or alongside the allocated Social Worker and contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of work with young people and families in crisis.

The Adolescent Team often works with young people who display aggressive, disruptive and anti social behaviour, who offend or are at risk of imprisonment or who are using substances and alcohol. They may have difficulties attending school, or have been excluded. Alongside this, mental health problems are often a compounding problem. The Adolescent Support Team provide intensive support, empowering young people and their families to develop effective long-term solutions to manage their family relationships without the assistance of Social Care Services in the future where safe to do so.

With a reduced caseload, the team is able to respond to crises and provide the intensive support required to stop adolescents from coming into care. Using strengths based and solution focussed intervention methods, you will seek to mediate, reunify, and promote young people remain safely at home with their family and support networks.

Applicants will need to be able to work as part of a team including building positive working relationships with Early Help and Young People Services and have an understanding of multi-agency work. This post, alongside creativity and good communication, requires flexibility, innovative thinking, and good organisation skills and also requires a positive young person centred approach. You will need to enjoy working with adolescents with a range of difficulties and draw upon various theories in order to bring about change.

This role also requires strong interpersonal and organisational skills, good IT skills and system understanding is essential.

You will have significant experience of working with children, young people and families in a similar statutory role. The ability to travel around the area is also an integral part of this role as we cover the whole of North Kent and part of your duties will involve visiting families at home. Therefore the use of a car is essential.
