I am recruiting for a company that is extending an opportunity in a team of world leading RF seeker professionals for a highly experienced systems engineer in the RF seeker and sensor domain, to take on key technical/engineering roles, including roles such as chief systems engineer and/or senior technical expert within our Engineering/R&D team, contributing towards the long-term technical direction of missile seekers, working alongside and supporting, enthusiastic junior engineers comprising a broad range of RF systems and electronic/RF engineering skills.
The Seeker Division, as Design Authority, consolidates all RF seeker/sensor system activities in order to develop these leading edge missile technologies for current and future products, thus delivering in development and production, RF & Multi Mode seekers, RF fuses, datalinks and related technologies, with outstanding performance on technical solution, timescale, and budget.
Seeker Systems Engineering Group manages all the systems activity associated with missile seekers as part of the overall guidance chain, including feasibility, concept, demonstrator development, modelling and trials as the primary feed for new seeker sub-systems in next generation missiles for complex weapons, and on project all the work strands up to an including full design certification. Each member of the team performs a range of tasks and engages regularly with other areas of the business, internal/external customers, and other major stakeholders.


The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in RF seeker systems & technology areas such as signal processing, algorithm development, complex modelling of target & missile guidance chain and countermeasures, with a view to taking a leading role in the concept for design, development, and proving of RF and RF/EO Seekers employing the latest developments in multi-channel high speed digital RF data processing techniques.
Your key responsibilities will include the specification, design, development, performance assessment, validation and testing of RF seekers and sensors, as part of a wider community of UK and European colleagues within the company. You will also have a key role in influencing the technical direction of the team in conjunction with other experienced engineers and international colleagues.
Within this primary role, a variety of key experiences are available, including;
Specification, design, development, validation and testing of RF seekers and sensors
System design seeker + missile guidance chain
Range doppler & angle tracking on seekers - design, simulation & performance analysis.
Countermeasures (IR, RF,). EPM Concept + System Design, & modelling & performance assessment
RF antennas and radomes
RF modelling of receivers, transmitters, synthesisers.
Proving & certification including air carry trials planning certification & execution
Weapon system and missile trials often in conjunction with French, Italian or German colleagues
Providing technical expertise in design reviews and other forums
Attending internal and external international workshops and conferences
Undertaking research and design activities, often in conjunction with French, Italian and/or German colleagues
Playing a leading role on the realisation of technology roadmaps and identifying cutting edge and future systems studies worthy of investment
Acting as the system lead and/or systems design Authority for one or more key seeker programmes.
Supporting and managing the growth and improvement of existing and future systems
modelling and validation methodology.

You will have experience of a broad and varied work content, which is dynamically changing
You will work in a highly skilled and experienced team covering all aspects of seeker systems technologies from fundamental concept to full weapon level systems engineering.
You will be part of an innovative team working at all levels spanning theoretical modelling of a concept, technology research/exploitation, leading to full assessment, demonstration, development and series production.
Some travel is involved between company sites particularly UK and Italy

A proven systems engineering background in RF sensors/defence/aerospace sector
Qualified to degree-level in relevant discipline
You will have significant previous experience of working with analogue and digital RF systems at frequencies above 1GHz, understanding the system-level decisions and trade-offs involved in the design and delivery of a mature solution
Experience with good engineering practices, such as requirements definition, design certification & validation.
Appreciation of system design & integration
Modelling skills including proficiency with tools such as MATLAB and/or Simulink
Ability to motivate yourself to achieve demanding and evolving tasks while maintaining a calm professional manner
Flexible, "can do" attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved
Initiative to lead tasks and work independently when required
You will be able to take responsibility for your own contribution, able to control your own timescale and responsible for your own budget
Experience with configuration and requirements management tools such as Team Centre PDM and DOORS
Ideally you will have experience of working in international or cross-cultural teams.
