Test Engineer - FEA/CAE

Job Summary

A computer-aided engineering software development company require a Test Engineer to conduct software testing of their mechanical application and other structural mechanics applications within their product range, as well as developing and maintaining test automation and scripts. You will participate in requirements planning, design reviews and the investigation of defects. You will also ensure product requirements and quality standards are satisfied and will assess how well the product will meet customer needs both in terms of functionality and usability.

Essential Functions

  • Perform software product testing to the company's overall development and testing processes
  • Analyse requirements and develop tests suitable for new features within the appropriate environment
  • Participate in design and code reviews
  • Perform functional, application, workflow and performance testing of the applications
  • Investigate possible causes of problems
  • Specify and write test cases; both automated and manual tests
  • Write and maintain test scripts
  • Write code for automated testing
  • Create metrics and monitoring systems that are used for early detection of defects
  • Work in various computing environments: Windows, Linux, Virtual, Compute Clusters, Cloud
  • Work closely with other members of the product creation team and communicate with technical support specialists on product issues
  • Coordinate with other teams to address cross team dependencies

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Academic or industry exposure to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and CAE tools with knowledge of FE methods
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics and numerical methods
  • Proficient in one or more programming or scripting languages: Python, C++, C#, Jscript, Perl
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with Development, Testing, Software Quality Assurance and Support staff
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
  • Able to troubleshoot by simplifying complex systems, debugging, and finding root causes

Other Information

  • Mechanical/civil engineering degree is preferred
  • Master's degree with some industrial experience preferred
  • Knowledge of explicit dynamics and/or rigid body dynamics advantageous
  • Experience with ANSYS structural mechanics products would be a clear advantage
  • Familiarity with CAD tools
  • Competent in the use of general office software applications such as mail tools, document editors, spreadsheets and databases.
