Deploy Rail are currently working with a large international Rail Solution provider with over 20 years’ experience within the UK infrastructure sector, who are looking for a General Manager to join the business on a permanent basis. The General Manager will be required to successfully lead the business and the 200+ team members ensuring safety, quality, delivery profitability and growth of the business unit.

This particular business unit provides technical expertise and quality workmanship within the Rolling Stock industry. Operating from their state of the art facilities in Cardiff they work closely with clients to create bespoke innovative solutions that address specific requirements, from complete overhaul projects to repair and maintenance.

The main responsibilities and areas of accountability will be:
• Lead and manage a competent and experienced production organisation which has the capability and capacity to deliver a demanding programme of work in line with programme requirements. Taking ownership of all Principle contractor responsibilities ensuring safety of the line at all times and ensuring the team has the capability to meet standards of the required work
• Develop an appropriate strategy for the development and delivery of the business work scope
• Responsible for driving value and maximising profits for the unit ensuring the Business forecasts are maintained and exceeded
• Develop a business plan and manage the budget of the company and achieve stand-alone productivity for the business
• Ensuring that assets are constructed to specified technical and quality requirements
• Manage Unit & Project cost against set budgets
• Procure, organise and manage project resources and materials
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
• Execute business strategies and practices to constantly improve health and safety, quality, production capability, costs and client satisfaction goals.
• As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements
• Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time

The job holder will have:
• Experience at Production Management Level or as experience of General Management within production or engineering environment which could include within food factory, automotive, fabrication, chemical, drug companies, defense etc.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with Client staff, construction contractors and their employees at all levels
• Experience of cost control management
• Experience of effective budget management and delivering cost reductions whilst improving services.
• Be a persuasive communicator, able to express views to diverse groups both internally and externally
• Has the ability to influence and shape business direction and is a proven people manager

Desirable skills
• Proven experience - Ideally operating within the rail industry and has experience of operating at a senior level as a production professional
• Knowledge of rail operating environment, standards and safety procedures
