This is a new permanent full time post created to work on a newly acquired portfolio of business within the area of building guarantee / builder warranty. You will be responsible for handling and resolving technical and complex claims with high exposure risks to company agreed standards and authority levels whilst maintaining excellent customer-client relationships. This includes determining case strategy, analysing liabilities and setting appropriate reserves, managing third party vendors, negotiating settlements, dealing with customers effectively, liaising with the finance team on payments and providing management reporting on claims development.

Key Tasks and Objectives

Provide claims handling on Building Guarantee claims in compliance with company Claims handling procedures, client SLA and within agreed authority levels, including accurately capturing and updating claims data/information in compliance with best practices
Apply knowledge and judgement to determine liability by gathering and analysing relevant facts; utilising applicable law, establishing basic principles of negligence and determining existence of coverage and the applicable of such coverage to claims presented.
Work to reach a timely resolution to claims by developing case strategy, including developing a case evaluation and escalating issues as appropriate.
Establish timely reserves and perform ongoing review throughout claims cycle within authority limit by estimating and validating value of claims.
Negotiate settlement of claims by establishing appropriate negotiation strategy and utilising available tools and resources within authority limits; knowing when to escalate due to severity and complexity.
Ensure customer service by proactively communicating information; responding to inquiries and following customer protocols.
Deal effectively with litigation by liaising with internal legal counsel within the approved panel where applicable; establishing litigation plan and budget; coordinating defence activities; continuously reviewing the potential for settlement with claimant; reviewing litigation expenses and authorising payments.
Effectively control expenses by working within vendor approved networks and managing scope of work assigned to outside contractors.
Ensure legal compliance by following UK laws, regulations and internal controls, including those on confidentiality, identifying and raising fraud concerns if necessary.

Key technical skills, knowledge, professional qualifications required

Previous experience in a similar Claims Adjusting role gained within the UK insurance market.
Degree educated ideally with insurance or legal qualifications
Knowledge and experience of the property and insurance market.
Accurate, reliable, with excellent attention to detail and an analytical approach.
Production of high quality written work product essential.
Understanding and experience of all regulatory issues an advantage (FSA, Data Protection etc.).
