We are currently partnering with a FTSE 100 online retail giant with thousands of employees globally for the position of Staff Engineer/ Technical Architect to work alongside the organisations CTO.

The company is currently undergoing some exciting changes and has created this new role within its engineering team to define what software they engineer and how they engineer it (languages & frameworks) - this person sets the engineering standards and strategy. This role will not be a day to day hands on role - although that capability will be tested as on occasion you could be needed to use your technical skills or discuss in detail technology with less experienced colleagues setting coding standards.

All the projects you will work on will be large scale across their ecommerce site and working across various applications within logistics, marketing and finance. Currently they are migrating all their applications to the cloud and this in itself requires major reengineering.

The candidate will be an exceptional individual having worked within large scale organisations, working across high traffic applications with a real passion for design and architecture. You will need to demonstrate previous experience in overcoming key business challenges and have previously implemented change.

Our ideal applicant:

- Will have been a hands on engineer previously using Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, Go, Node, Javascript (the more languages the better as we are agnostic when it comes to technology)

- Experience with JIRA, Github etc

- Unit testing and continuous integration

- SOA

- Experience in leading or mentoring teams of a large size (25+)

- Experience of working across and strategic mapping across multiple devices - Desktop, Tablet, mobile etc

- Experience with cloud infrastructure and services

-Previously mapped out technology strategies for large organisations

- Previously taken the lead in architecting and designing systems

- Work in conjuction with Heads of Development- explaining technical direction and listening to their needs too

- Have experience with setting out progression criteria for other engineers and implementing this across the business

- Acting as a coach at times and also face of technology where needed to explain decisions to the rest of the engineers (of all levels) as well as key stakeholders
